No TikTok or Snapchat at all. What I do however is set a 30 timer for each social media app so that on any given day I wouldn’t use it for long. I tend to do this when things aren’t going well in my life so right now I’m struggling with unemployment and housing. Omg yes. So, I deleted all the apps. There are many schools of though on getting rid of distractions like social media during finals/midterms/essays and I find the simplest way to get rid of your tendency to look at instagram and twitter is to download Cold Turkey, a desktop program that can't be removed by conventional means and will block each browser that doesn't have the companion extension that the program requires you to A common misconception at the moment is that deleting social media is good for your self-esteem etc. Social media simulates and replaces friendship. Social media is not my life, it's something I use much like a newspaper or television show. However, sometimes you can disable the app in the same way that you would uninstall it, or at the very least, clear the cache for the app, and delete its data, making it so that if you launch it again, you'll have to sign in, which is hopefully enough of a speed bump. The apps are of course very convenient to use but require some permissions like camera, microphone, location, contacts, etc. However, I also find Reddit a useful place to visit for news and the thoughts of people who are interested in the same things as me, so I don't stay away for long. I suck at using social media. I would say everyone should try it at least once if they feel like it, definitely eye opening. Mentally it’s helped me so much identify my values and what’s important to me as oppose to acting for my feed, and if you (like me) could spend hours scrolling aimlessly through your social media you’ll be so surprised at how much free time you’ll actually have🤣 I’ve taken up reading since deleting it last year and this year alone I don't really use reddit as a social media platform. For responsible use I'm talking about avoiding all the content that gets people depressed and anxious nowadays.
